Too Late
I know now I was too
late.
My friend, her body
gone
Her spirit lives
within my heart
Her words read like a
song
She suffered so in
her short life
She suffered much
alone
One day she chose to
spread her wings
Unknown she found a
friend
They shared a history
and a name
They didn’t know the
end
She took a risk with
this new friend
Though never shared
her pain
It took another to
open that box
To slowly draw her
out
The pain that she had
suffered
The devil she did not
live without
No one knew, she
never told, she suffered all alone.
She got away for just
a bit, but uncertainty drove her back.
She reached out to
this other friend
And opened up her
heart
She trusted her to
keep her sane and let her tell her story
Together these
friends did what they could
They let this woman
in.
Her pain, her sorrow
became their own
It grew like the devil
within
He controlled her
life he controlled her breath
This devil that she
lived with.
As her contact grew
sporadic
Both friends feared
the worst
They knew and tried
to prepare
Hoping, that all was not
lost
Hope it seemed did
flourish, until the day the devil wrote
They were too late,
she lost her fight
against the devil
that she lived with
I know now we were
too late.
Our friend, her body
gone
Her spirit lives
within our hearts
Her words read like a
song
She suffered so in
her short life
She suffered much
alone
But for just a while
we made her smile
I hope she knows
she’s not alone.
A piece of us died
with her of that we can be sure
The devil thinks he
won this round
            He only won round one.
